Troy-Bilt TB590BC 18-Inch 29cc 4-Cycle Gas Powered Clutched Straight Shaft String Trimmer/Brush Cutter With EZ-Link Coupler
Customer Review: Not what is advertised
Having had years of experience with 2 cycle trimmers I was looking for a better more dependable outcome with a 4 cycle trimmer. I selected this Troy-Bilt model from Amazon as I was unable to purchase locally as there were no choices. Delivery was fast, set up was easy, starting it was .... a nightmare. I followed the multi-step starting instructions explicitly, and repeatedly. After repeated attempts I finally was able to start the engine by completely closing the choke lever (position 1) until it sputtered, then opening the choke lever to position 2, it started! After letting it warm up by holding the throttle lever to maximum for several minutes, it would continue to run at idle. However when I positioned the choke lever to position 1 (per the instructions) the engine stopped. This happens every time I am able to start the engine. This engine is not properly adjusted to function per the detailed starting instructions provided by Troy-Bilt. This engine has turned out to be even more frustrating than I have encountered with 2 cycle engines. I also find the engine speed to be slower than 2 cycle trimmers, and this definitely affects the quality and ease of trimming grass. The engine rotation is also different, turning the trimmer string counterclockwise. Being right handed, the grass clippings now completely cover my shoes and legs making a bigger than normal mess. I will be returning this trimmer, and will purchase a 2cycle trimmer at half the cost that will work twice as good.
Customer Review: Great, but...
I have one of these (or it's immediate predacessor model) for 5 years and it worked flawlessly. Then one day I was knee deep in the swamp cutting cattails just under the waterline and KABLOOEY! The cattails wrapped around the bush cutter head and the EZ Link drive cable twisted apart at the coupling. I thought it could do everything! I was disappointed. ;-)) Actually I give it 5 stars. It was saftey engineered well enough that I didn't have my arm cut off when the cutting head wrapped around the cattails and pulled me off my feet into the swamp and the cutter. The safety engine kill and brake worked like a charm. I took the motor (which was still alright) and made a fence post auger out of it. That sucker has some torque! Yes, I am a red-neck if you were wondering...

Swisher Shindaiwa E4 Power Multi-Tool String Trimmer Attachment #E4-U3001
Customer Review: Quality tool with great quick-disconnect
Swisher/Shindaiwa's quick-disconnect on their multi-tool is exceptional. The lock-up at the joint is very solid, with no play at all, and the drive is via a solid shaft - not a cable as with almost all others. I down-rate this attachment to 4 stars only because the bump head isn't up to the quality of the rest of the tool. I changed mine out to an Echo pre-cut string head several years ago and have never looked back.

Earthwise CST00012 18 Volt 12-Inch Cordless String Trimmer
Customer Review: Terrible Product
This item worked properly only once. On the second use the handle got stuck after it was powered and I had to really play with it to shut it down. Additionally the cord did not self feed but it did tangle. I returned it and received a replacement. The replacement battery charger stopped working after one use. This seems to be a one use product. I am buying a Homelite version at Home Depot tonight. It too has good reviews so we'll see. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
Customer Review: Earthwise 18 volt Cordless String Trimmer
This product is a good product for very light duty. I found that the semi-auto feed line was a little difficult to operate whereas I had to manually pull string out several times. The battery power was short, about 20 mins. This is great product for very light yard work, not good as an edger. Be sure to keep your yard maintained because this unit will not do a good job if the weeds are high.

Tanaka Quiet String Trimmer Line .095-Inch x 52 Pre-Cut Strands #746455
Customer Review: It works as promised!
This QUIET STRING works as promised. It seems to last long and cuts good and it is quieter than normal string.
Customer Review: Simple-No Bumping
I LOVE the simple "insert strand & go" idea. For whatever reason, I've always had problems with the old bump the spool idea and then hangups taking place instead of new line coming out. I'd recommend these durable strands to anyone.
